A HUGE THANKS to Robert and Reyna for putting together the first official Evelyn Family Reunion. It was a lot of fun! I think we had a pretty good turn out too. Friday night dinner had 33 people

Saturday morning we didn't get to see the balloons lift off, it was too windy, but we did see a hot air balloon up close, and that was pretty cool.

After Breakfast we went to the Scera park for a little patriotic program

That night we saw the amazing fireworks coming out of BYU stadium. We weren't all together in the same spot, but we all really enjoyed it, so that's all that matters.

Sunday we met back at camp for breakfast. And then packing up and heading home. We really appreciate all the time that was put into planning this. It was very memorable!

I was elected to put together the next reunion, so you'll be hearing from me. We need to figure out if next year is the best or if 2 years is better. And then a good date to do it.

A little more info

The reunion is just a little over a month away. There will be lots of fun to be had. Here's a rough itinerary.

There will be 2-4 campsites saved for those who wish to camp.

Friday night we will have a dinner at the campgrounds - possibly activities before that.

Saturday morning is the Hot air Balloon Festival from 7am-9am. We will gather for breakfast after. That day will be full of different activities, depending on age and interest. We will gather again that evening on a grassy hill near BYU Stadium for a picnic dinner.

Meals provided with your cost:

Friday dinner at campground 7pm

Saturday pancake Breakfast 9am (after balloon fest)

Saturday chicken/picnic dinner 7pm

Sunday Brunch 10am at park or campground

(Saturday's lunch is up to the individual families)

For those who said their coming: If you haven't sent your money, please do so.

For those who have said they can't come, it's not too late to change your mind, we'd love to see you there. We understand life circumstances or location can make it hard, you will be missed.

Head Count Please!

I've sent an email to all the addresses I have. Please, if I missed someone forward the info.

Robert needs a head count ASAP. He needs to reserve the campground very soon.

We need to know if you plan to come, even if it's just a maybe. We'd rather plan for too many, than not enough.

We also need to know how long you plan to stay (Fri - evening to Sun Morning, etc). And whether you plan to camp.

More Information!

Robert has reserved the campground NUNs Park in the Provo Canyon (Picnic Group Area 1) for Friday night's dinner. The campgrounds are only available first come first serve so he will have to set up tents on a few of the camp sites the night before. He will need to know who plans to camp.

It will be $15 per night for camping fees per family- ( including $5.00 per family for the Group use area- reserved separately@ $40 per evening or morning) Complete cost for those getting a hotel to come soon.

We will only need the Group area two times (Friday night for dinner/campfire and maybe Saturday Morning for Breakfast) after the hot Air Balloon festival.

The Provo sponsored pancake 8AM breakfast may not be the best timing for everyone

The Provo river bike trail runs through the campground and goes to Bridal Veil Falls. A great scenic ride, walk, etc.

A great Friday morning activity , if you plan to arrive early, would be to see the new Church motion-picture at the Joseph Memorial building across from Temple Square - the show is free every hour and a half.

In order to be back in Provo to set up camp and float the river you would need to leave SLC by 1pm. More details about this to come.

There is also a Community Swimming pool

And Utah Lake - Robert has a boat and wouldn't mind taking people out, but it would have to be Satuday afternoon and would be a several hour event.

2010 Family Reunion

(This is typed by Jolene , but the words are an email from Robert:)

"I am excited to host the reunion in Utah around the 4th of July because there is so much to do here in July.

I have a tentative outline for the 2 day -2 night reunion. Reyna's family has a big extended family reunion every year and the attitude of most people who travel from far is that they want to make the trip for several days if they are going to travel from outside of Utah. This makes a good plan for Friday- Saturday and then travel back on Sunday- Monday to their home.
- We are looking into a few different campsites near our home. We could use our home for preparing food and showers, and base camp. The campsite would be only 15 minutes our home. Group sites are hard to get for the 4th weekend so reserving 4-5 individual sites would probably do just fine. Each site allows two cars and 8 adults. So we could put two families in a site.


This is our thought on the schedule:

Arrive Friday day (afternoon?)- for a quick trip to SLC and the tour of temple square area or "This is the place Monument -park". Floating the Provo river in the late afternoon - you can rent tubes and we have several rafts too. it is a 1 hour float about 2 hours for the whole affair.

Saturday morning there is a hot air balloon festival in Provo followed by a pancake breakfast, then the big Freedom parade in Provo ( it has national attendance and state-wide participants) and then maybe water skiing on Utah Lake for the afternoon then BBQ dinner in the park (KFC) with the fireworks - Fireworks show will be on Saturday night in Utah. This is a Firework show like only few large cities have. The Kids can also light fireworks that are for sale everywhere.

The Holiday will be Monday and this will allow people to travel back home on Sunday or Monday. If people choose to stay Sunday they can visit temple square or other SLC sites , Great Salt lake, etc.

The cost would be$70 for each family. This would probably cover 4 meals (dinner and breakfast) and campsite for the couple days. We can plan the rest as we get people committed to come."

I think it sounds super fun!
