Broccoli Salad

Because this recipe was such a hit, Krista wanted me to post this so everyone could enjoy it.

Salad:
1 Large bunch of Broccoli cut into bite size pieces (stem included).
1 bunch of green onions sliced small
1/2 Cup roasted sunflower seeds (not raw)
1/2 Cup Craisins
3/4 Cup crumbled Bacon

Dressing:
1 Cup Mayonnaise
1/2 Cup Sugar
2 Tablespoons Vinegar (any kind)

Mix and enjoy!

For those that missed it... good times, good times!

For those of you who were not able to come to this year's family reunion, we really missed having you join in this experience with us. We hope to get together again soon so we can get to know each other more. Especially with all the changes that each family experiences each year. Below is a little information about the 2014 Evelyn Family Reunion:

Friday was a long day for everyone! We are glad that we all arrived safe despite all the car troubles that Grandma and Grandpa had. Below are pictures of our first day since everyone else arrived in the evening.
Pie Plate Dinners. Krista did such a good job.

On the second day, we were fortunate enough that our camp neighbor did not show up. Robert's family was able to move next to us so they had a bigger and shadier site. Through it all, Matthew became a little bored of waiting for us to go river rafting and decided to play in the dirt. Good thing we were going in the water later!

I called this his "war paint"

After a long morning and a wonderful lunch, it was time to hit the rapids. As I have never rafted down this part of the Truckee River before, I believed all that I read about the class I rapids that we would encounter. I think that because of the dry year that we have been experiencing, more obstacles were present and the rapids seemed to be more than class I. We all made it safely down with only a few bumps and bruises. Grandma's boat capsized a couple times so she and Cassie took the dry route. Some of the areas were a little rough. Krista and Matthew almost flipped a couple times too.

Grandma had to dry off a little bit after her river journey. We were happy that she was willing to attempt the river and she had a fun time talking about it afterwards.

After we returned, we had another wonderful meal and were able to talk and enjoy the company and scenery around us.

In the end, we became closer. Matthew and Tanner did exceptionally well at becoming good friends.

They built a secret hideout complete with 2 "food storage rooms"

Robert and his family decided to stop by Lake Tahoe on the way home since we did not see it in the short time we were together. They found a nice area called Skylandia Park where they were able to enjoy an hour or two on the lake.

Time for a head count

After the few responses to the poll sent out earlier, we have decided that most of the family would like to have the reunion from July 25-27, 2014. Check in would be after 2:00 PM on Friday the 25th and checkout would be before 2:00 PM on Sunday. Last Summer, Krista and I found a spot that we really liked between North Tahoe (North-east side of the Lake) and Truckee California. In light of the Winter Olympics this year, the campsite is near Olympic Valley where this region held the 1960 Winter Olympics. A link to the reserve america website about the campground can be found HERE. I need to reserve the campsite soon so I will need to know how many people will be coming. Please reach out to as many family members as you can and ask them comment on this post and give me their family name along with a count of family members that will be attending. For example: Ludlow Family-3. I will be Reserving the campsites after the 16th of March so I will need a headcount by that Sunday. I will reserve the campsites according to the headcounts that I receive on this blog. So that gives us 2 weeks. Please respond quickly. Any questions concerns and suggestions are welcome in the comments also.

Family reunion progress and participation invite

Ever since I accepted to plan and prepare this year's family reunion, I have been slowly trying to get it together. Last Summer Krista and I spent some weekends camping near Lake Tahoe to find a good place for the family to enjoy. Before making reservations, I need a little participation in order to try and get as many family members to participate as possible. I have created a little poll for all to take to determine when the best time would be, and how long we all can get together. Please click on the following link for the poll. 2014 Family Reunion Survey After I get the results, I will be able to finalize the reunion plans.
